Shining, a retrospective dramedy

shiningWhile searching for some movie info, I stumbled onto this reworked ‘trailer’ for “The Shining” (dir. Stanley Kubrick). Trailers are made to sell a movie and often mislead us into believing that this film is about something that its not. Well, someone took the footage of “The Shining” and craftily repackaged it as a touching, coming-of-age family drama and i pity the guy who watches this trailer, goes out to rent the film and is treated to a psychological head trip instead…

The clip does takes a while to load so perhaps you might want to right-click to save and view it on your desktop. Needs Quicktime to play.

  1. hahahaha……quite farnee.. it really does seem like one of those family movies… what with the “foster father” thingy. the person totally eliminated the essence of “the shining!” (where’s the gore, blood and, that famous scene where Jack comes back everyone with the axe?) anyway, it’s really pretty well down… it’s the music, man.. so deceiving!

  2. Yeah, isn’t it clever? If i didn’t watch “the Shining” before i would have swore that the trailer was for some feel-good movie. Maybe this will start a trend.

  3. Maybe you can start with making a “Debbie Does Dallas” trailer in the style of “Rain Man”…or maybe “Forrest Gump”.

  4. Finally downloaded n absolutely agreed that it is quite a piece of creativity ! No hint of any gore but appeared to be like you said, a family movie, and a comic one too. In comparision with WestSide Story, both are equally outstanding and I wud place them as first-place ties. Wonder what was the edge-decision on Shining.
