Legends of the Dark Knight

DarkknightThe rumour mongers have been stoking the fires of gossip as to who will play the iconic role of the Joker in the upcoming sequel to the excellent “Batman Begins”. As of today, Warner Bros. has annouced that it is none other than Heath Ledger who will slide into those purple pants as the ultimate Clown Prince of Crime. Frankly, I am slightly taken aback by this decision to go with Ledger as this would be quite a departure from his previous roles (ie. the desirable hunk in “Casanova”, “A Knights Tale” and most recently, “Brokeback Mountain”). Heath would probably have to shed a chunk of his hunkiness to fit Joker’s scrawny frame. So what is the concensus guys? Who were your choices for the purpled master of mayhem?

Another piece of Batman news is that the title for the sequel has been locked down and its simply titled “The Dark Knight”. Pretty cool eh? The two Chris’s (Nolan and Bale) will have to be back as I cannot imagine the sequel without them. Sir Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman will reprise their roles as Alfred and Lucious Foxx respectively. A rumoured new addition to the cast will be Phillip Seymour Hoffman who should be playing the Penguin. And hopefully we’ll get to see more of Gary Oldman as Lieutenant Gordon too.

  1. I don’t think Heath fits the part. He has gone his whole acting career playing good guys…. and now Joker? the iconic Batman villain?

Offhand, I can think of Robert Carlye (the villain in World is not enough)… or even Edward Norton. Sorry, but I don’t rate Heath Ledger as an actor. One oscar-winning gay cowboy movie doesn’t cover up all the previous crap he has done.

  2. Well, in his bid for trying out more ’serious’ roles, Heath will have a lot of expectations to live up to. My personal vote was to Guy Pearce (”L.A. Confidential” and “Ravenous”). He is lanky enough and looks absolutely devious when he smiles. Heath just looks gay in the picture above…

  4. Personally, Brokeback Mountain was the worst movie ever (although got Jake MMMmmm Gyllenhaal, but he also like shit in the movie). No plot no character development nothing. I agree with Keg, Heath Ledger cannot act. The only thing I remember about him from before BBM is that one of my friends used to fancy him. But he might just prove us wrong this time (maybe)..

Eh what’s this lah!? Mai overrun this blog with all the Hard Gay nonsense lah!!!

  5. I thought that Jake acted a lot better in the BBM. Heath was basically mumbling to himself the entire movie. *grumble….y’all dun noe nuthin’….mumble* I honestly wished there were subtitles during the dam movie.

  9. ‘Keg’ is just ‘Kev’ spelt wrongly. I was typing too fast to Kerwei one day about something you said, then I hit the ‘G’ key instead of the ‘V’… hahaha. And the name stuck.

  12. ha ha ……where’d u get that photo ? likeness is uncanny ! morphing will be plainsailing ! Tho not sure abt his acting. Robert Carlye will be my choice….similar facial features and great character actor. Missed Gary Oldman in action.

  13. me-Nocturne: Heath’s acting ability will always be in question as long as he insists on playing the same damn roles over and over again. Robert Carlye does possess the ‘wild, uncontrollable” nature of the Joker and I believe he would make a great one.
